Shock testing simulates sudden, high-energy impacts, such as drops, collisions or jolts, that can crack housings, loosen fasteners or trigger hidden faults. These short-duration events are often missed by vibration testing alone.
At Axis Test Laboratories, we perform classical mechanical shock pulses including half-sine, trapezoidal and terminal-peak sawtooth, using both electro-dynamic shakers and our dedicated drop tower. All testing is carried out in our UKAS-accredited facility in accordance with EN 60068-2-27, MIL-STD-810H, IEC / BS EN 61373 and other relevant standards.
A single shock event can destroy a product that passes every other environmental test.
Typical applications include:
Railway equipment exposed to bogie impacts and track vibration
Military or aerospace systems during launch, impact or separation events
Battery systems in vehicles subjected to road shocks or crash pulses
Consumer devices dropped during handling or shipping
Shock testing helps identify structural weaknesses and latent defects before they reach the customer. This reduces the risk of failure, safety issues or costly recalls.
In rail, defence and aerospace sectors, formal shock testing is often a contractual requirement. Our reports are designed to meet those specifications.
